Karachi Reports Over 26,500 Crimes in First Five Months of 2025
KARACHI: A concerning rise in criminal activities has been reported in Karachi, with more than 26,500 incidents occurring from January to May 2025, as highlighted by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in a report by ARY News.
The data indicates that 245 individuals lost their lives due to various crime-related incidents, including 48 fatalities resulting from gunfire during attempts to resist robberies.
Motorcycle thefts and snatchings accounted for a significant portion of the reported crimes, with over 17,994 cases. Additionally, there were 684 incidents involving the theft or snatching of cars and other vehicles. Mobile phone snatching remained a prevalent issue, with more than 6,489 cases documented during this timeframe.
The report also detailed 11 kidnappings for ransom and 32 extortion cases, underscoring the ongoing challenges posed by organized crime in various areas of the city.
In a notable incident, a joint operation by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the CPLC successfully rescued a kidnapping victim named Nasir Hussain.
Nasir was abducted on October 5 from Sector 5-D, Bilal Colony, in Karachi’s Central district, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 million from his family. The family promptly reported the incident to the Bilal Colony Police Station, leading to the case being referred to the AVCC.
Through thorough surveillance and technical tracking, law enforcement managed to recover Nasir Hussain safely. However, the kidnappers escaped before they could be arrested.
