Malir Prison Escape: Three More Fugitives Captured, 73 Still on the Run
KARACHI – Authorities announced on Wednesday that three additional prisoners who escaped from Malir Jail have been apprehended, while 73 inmates continue to evade capture following the recent jailbreak.
Progress in Recovery Efforts
According to official reports:
- A total of 225 inmates managed to escape during the incident.
- 152 of those escapees have been recaptured.
Some fugitives were caught in targeted police operations, while others returned voluntarily, assisted by their families. Law enforcement agencies have formed specialized teams to locate the remaining escapees, focusing on known residences and hideouts.
Investigation into Security Lapses
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak. Key steps include:
- Collecting evidence from prison cells, administrative offices, and the surrounding perimeter.
- Facing challenges due to the lack of functional CCTV systems in the facility.
The absence of surveillance footage has proven to be a significant obstacle in understanding how the escape was orchestrated and in identifying those who may have aided the inmates.
Government Implements Disciplinary Actions
In light of this serious breach of security, the Sindh government has taken immediate measures:
- The Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Sindh has been relieved of his position.
- The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jails and the Superintendent of Malir Jail have been suspended pending further investigation.
These actions are aimed at ensuring accountability and enhancing prison security protocols across the province.
Public Assistance Requested
Law enforcement is urging the public to:
- Report any unusual activities or sightings of suspicious individuals.
- Assist authorities in tracking down the remaining escapees.
Officials have assured that all available resources are being utilized to restore order and prevent future security breaches in the prison system.
