Punjab Plans Interest-Free Electric Taxis Under New e-Taxi Scheme

Punjab is set to launch its first-ever electric taxi (e-Taxi) service, aiming to provide electric vehicles on easy, interest-free installments. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push towards eco-friendly transportation and economic empowerment.

A high-level steering committee meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of Punjab’s Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, where a detailed briefing was given on the progress of the e-Taxi project. The meeting reviewed various models of electric vehicles, their pricing, and technical specifications. Discussions were also held regarding the development of charging stations and other necessary infrastructure.

To ensure the success and efficiency of the project, several proposals and improvements were discussed during the session.

Bilal Akbar Khan stated that in the initial phase of the e-Taxi scheme, 1,100 electric vehicles will be provided on an easy, interest-free installment basis. He added that the eligibility criteria will be kept simple and accessible, allowing more people to benefit from this opportunity.

The e-Taxi scheme is set to be officially launched in the coming weeks through advertisements, which will invite applications from interested candidates.

This initiative is expected to support employment, reduce fuel costs, and promote environmentally sustainable transport across the province.
